Former YBL Pitcher of the Year Sean Gildea signs a Professional Contract
Sean Gildea becomes the second Medford Maddog player to sign a Professional Contract with the River City Rascals of the Frontier League. During Gildea's 4 seasons with the Maddogs he had more wins (31) and more strike outs (354) than any other pitcher in the League. In 2006 Gildea won the Cy Young Award, as the League's best pitcher and was named to 3 All Star Teams, 2005-2007. In 2006 Sean threw the only No-Hitter in Maddog's history in 2006.

Championship Series Final 2:
 vs |
Somerville continues to prove they are the team to beat, heading into another championship series. The Brewers are looking to show everyone they are the team to shut them down. An exciting season ends in just 7 more games. Will the Brewers dethroan Somerville, or will Somerville capture another title and keep the bragging rights? It all starts this week as Somerville hosts Brighton at Trum Field.
Semi-Finals strart Tuesday:
It took 4 games for #1 seed Somerville to end the season against those scrappy players from #8 West Roxbury. A tough game 3 performance on Staurday by West Roxbury, earned them a chance to pull the series even in game 4. Somerville didn't let that happen as they look on for another Championship push.
For the second straight year, the #7 seed has beaten the #2 seed. South Boston came from behind in both of the first 2 games, being down 4-0, against Revere and end up handily sweaping the series. A total of 32 runs were scored by South Boston.
The #6 East Boston Bluefish also swept their series against Al Thomas to dethroan the #3 seed. The Bluefish seem to have much to prove as they head into the series against a tough Brighton Brewers team. Their push to make the playoffs was a notable 10 game winning streak.
The #5 Brighton Brewers proved they can hit and score run, as they stopped #4 Medford from making a run at another Championship series showing. There will be no rematch for Medford. The Brewers now become a favorite to take on Somerville.
The table has been set; Post Season Baseball is here:
After one of the best playoff races in YBL history, the final 5 spots were not determined until the last day of the regular season. In fact, the #8 seed was determined by a one game playoff. West Roxbury grabbed the final spot by beating the McKay Club to advance to the championship tournament. Teams were flip flopping the final 2 weeks on a daily basis.
With the table now set, the playoffs begin Wednesday night, August 8th. The ultimate goal is to win the Championship. Let the matchups, the fun, the excitement...begin:
#1 Somerville Alibrandis vs #8 West Roxbury Devils
#2 Revere Rockies vs #7 South Boston Saints
#3 Al Thomas A's vs #6 East Boston Bluefish
#4 Medford Maddogs vs #5 Brighton Brewers
